AIA CA Vice President of Government Relations

Rona Rothenberg, FAIA is the Vice President of Government Relations for the AIA CA.  She is an author of articles about architecture, speaking in panels and conferences. She has over 30 years ago through volunteering in projects and planning for public schools and religious institutions, tenure serving as a Board member and committee chair in continuous and increasing leadership roles in the AIA locally, statewide and nationally.   Over the past decade she has led the AIA’s national Public Architects Advisory Group, as a regional representative of the College of Fellows and as a Board member of the AIA California in addition to her work as a public architect in California State and local government for the past 18 years.


AIA CA Advocacy Staff:

Mark ChristianMark Christian, Hon. AIA CA, is the Director of Government Relations for the AIA California, a position he has held since 1999. In this position, Mark is responsible for monitoring the California State Legislature, identifying bills of interest to the profession, developing and implementing strategies for the positive outcome of legislation of interest to the profession, and representing the profession before the legislature. Prior to joining the AIA CA, Mark worked for the State Assembly for nine years in several capacities, including as a policy consultant on several significant environmental laws. He holds a B.A. in Economics from the California State University, Sacramento.


Advocacy Advisory Committee

This committee meets twice a year to recommend policies and positions on legislative and regulatory issues. The first meeting of the year is in the spring and primarily focuses on legislative bills and initiatives. The committee will also be in touch by email and phone calls to discuss and review issues brought up by the legislature.

AIA CA Board of Directors

Members of the AIA CA Board of Directors serve as the elected representatives of local chapter members at the state level of the AIA. They are responsible for setting and approving policy decisions and directions for the AIA CA, approving the annual plan and budget, setting the dues amount for the AIA CA, and debating issues of concern to architects and the architectural profession in California.
